FIRST® LEGO® League Singapore MASTERPIECE℠ 23/24 Explore Highlights
The FIRST® LEGO® League Singapore Explore Event held on the 6th of April at the Canadian International School was a vibrant celebration of innovation, creativity, and teamwork. As we reflect on the exciting memories made during this event, it’s evident that the spirit of exploration and collaboration was alive and thriving among the young participants.

The theme for this year’s FIRST® LEGO® League was MASTERPIECE, challenging students to imagine and innovate new ways to create and communicate art through STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). This theme aimed to inspire creativity, big ideas, and bold actions, encouraging participants to think outside the box and unleash their creative potential. For children aged 5 to 9, it was an opportunity to explore how people share their hobbies and interests in captivating ways and learn about different venues where talents are showcased.
Showcasing Innovation
On the day of the event, excitement filled the air as 157 participants from 14 different schools and learning centres gathered to showcase their projects. After a morning of registration and booth setup, the teams eagerly presented their creations to the reviewers from Qualcomm, who generously volunteered to evaluate the projects. It was a chance for the participants to demonstrate their creativity and passion for STEM and the arts.

The atmosphere in the gymnasium was electric as each team proudly showcased their work. From intricately designed posters to innovative models, the projects on display demonstrated the students’ hard work and creativity. The reviewers were impressed by the level of innovation and creativity demonstrated by the young participants, as they interacted with each team and asked insightful questions about their projects.
In preparation for the festival, participants engaged in a variety of activities to bring their ideas to life. They learned to build stages for different types of performances, delved into coding and motorisation of their team models, and collaborated closely to create unique and innovative projects. As they worked on their designs and presentations, they not only honed their technical skills but also learned valuable lessons in teamwork, problem-solving, and communication.

The highlight of the event was the awards ceremony, where participants were recognised for their achievements. With Mr. Ali Asghar of Duck Learning as the emcee, the ceremony celebrated the winners across various categories, including sportsmanship, core values, coding, and challenge solutions. Each award represented a different aspect of the participants’ journey, from their dedication to teamwork to their innovative problem-solving skills.
